Description:

Commonwealth Carer Respite Service is funding a support program for people with an Autism Spectrum Disorder who DO NOT have an associated intellectual disability.

FACSIA have provided funding to Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre for a program for families who care for someone with Autism,/Aspergers and not eligible for DHS services. This funding will allow people who have not been able to access respite in the past to participate in a residential stay, school holiday recreational programs and social outings. The program will cater for people up to the age of 64 with high or low care needs including challenging behaviours providing 1-1 or 1-2 ratio of care.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for this program a person will need to have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder with no intellectual disability or other condition which entitles them to DHS funded services. While short term, until the end of November, this program will provide much needed respite for carers who have been excluded in the past. For further information please ring 9212 3000.
