Overview:Options Victoria - Leisure Link UpRecent Australian Bureau of Statistics data indicates that 1 in 5 Australians experience a disability at some stage in their life. Is this figure represented in your club’s membership? Being inclusive involves creating an accessible and welcoming environment to encourage people of all abilities. This is good for everyone. Including people with a disability makes sense! Options Victoria - Leisure Link Up (LLU) is the Access for All Abilities (AAA) program provider for the municipalities of Kingston, Greater Dandenong, Frankston and Mornington Peninsula. The Victorian government funds the AAA program, which aims to build the capacity of the sport & recreation sector to provide increased opportunities for active participation by people of any level of ability. This is achieved through promoting the benefits of active participation, involvement in the planning and development of accessible and inclusive sport and recreation environments and fostering and developing partnerships to enhance access and inclusion. LLU can provide practical support to help your club to identify ways to create a more accessible physical environment and an inclusive atmosphere. We can help your club to become more “disability confident.” Benefits of being an inclusive club • Potential for increased membership. If people taking part in specialized programs decide to join your club, they may bring family & friends to the club as well • Your club’s community profile will be enhanced, creating promotional and development opportunities you might not otherwise have. • You will be providing a pathway, possibly to elite level, for people who would not have the opportunity otherwise. Note: becoming more inclusive shouldn’t mean compromising the needs of your current members. It is possible to accommodate specific needs without losing your competitive edge. Expanding your membership may even make you more competitive! How to get started (LLU is available to assist at any stage) • Have a meeting and discuss how your club can be more inclusive • Have your facilities and activities assessed to determine their suitability and accessibility • Organise an event which we can promote through our networks How we can help • Access planner – LLU has an easy to use tool to help you assess your facilities and activities. This is not an official audit, just an indicator to highlight your club’s potential for access and inclusion. • Training/ information – facilitating information and awareness training, including training for coaches, officials and administrators. • Program Development – working with clubs and sporting organisations (regional, statewide, disability specific) to develop competitions for sports people of all abilities. • Referral – our extensive network within both the sports and disability fields enable us to link people and organisations together Contact us Suite 8, Level 1, 108-120 Young Street, Frankston VIC 3199 Melways ref: 100A D7 Telephone: 9783 3855 Fax: 9770 0994 Email: leisurelinkup @optionsvic.org.au Leisure Link Up is a service of Options Victoria.
