Overview:

Bayside City Council provides a range of Home and Community Care services to assist frail older people, people of all ages with disabilities and the carers of these people to remain at home in the community for as long as they wish and are able.

Respite care provides assistance to the carers of:

·frail older people
·people suffering with dementia or a related illness
·people of any age, including young children with a pyhsical, intellectual or sensory disability

The aim of the service is to support the caring relationship by providing a break for the primary carer from their caring responsibilities. The service provides time for the carer to participate in family, social, recreational, personal or community activities. Experienced and qualified staff can provide respite in the home or those being cared for may be taken on outings, where appropriate.

Bookings for respite are made in advance and the service is available on a permanent or occasional (as required) basis. Where an occasional booking is received office staff will confirm the availability of a staff member as soon as possible. The respite service is available seven days a week.

Respite can include:

·personal care tasks
·food preparation and light house hold duties
·transporting and accompanying clients to local recreational activities and outings
·accompanying clients on leisurely walks
·provision of stimulating activities
