The Autism Crash Course for Parents

- Toilet training children with additional needs
- Autism Spectrum and eating difficulties
- Puberty and ASD
- Considerations for siblings of children with additional needs

- Start your search for services early. Many holiday programs fill up and / or it takes time to find workers to attend programs with your child. Services need time in advance to organise around staff ratio's, providing support staff if this is needed.
- Search this 'Whats On' School holiday listing to book in for programs
- Other places to look for holiday programs include your local council disability programs.
- Use the 'Respite and Recreation Finder' listed on this website, or ask a friend or relative to help you with this. You can search under several categories and approach various community organisations listed yourself.

Exercise Physiology Services - Move 4 Health

Exercise Physiology services offered through Move 4 Health may include; gentle movement and sensory group programs, individual rehabilitation sessions, and professional development training for families and carers.
An Exercise Physiologist uses movement and exercise as an intervention for neuromuscular, cardiac, and musculoskeletal conditions, to help children, youth, and adults experience pain relief, sensory stimulation, and gain improvements in coordination, gross motor skills, concentration, balance, behavioural problems, self-esteem, and fatigue.

YAW (Young Adults Workshop) is a project for people with a (dis)ability between the ages of 16 & 26.

Get the inside scoop on how to get the best picture from your camera with Alex Joseski.
We will teach you the trade of the cinematographer with tips on depth of field, shutter speed, three point lighting, colour temperature and the best way to find your frame!

Able Australia ~ Southern Intensive Respite Support (SIRS)

Able Respite provides "time-out" for both the individual being supported and their carer. Their newest respite facility, Southern Intensive Respite Support (SIRS), is currently located in Bonbeach.
SIRS is a respite facility for people with a disability (there are 3 beds available at the house).
Weekend respite (from 3pm Fri - 10.30am Mon) is available for 12-18 year old people with Autism and/or behaviours of concern attending a school in Southern Region.
Midweek respite (from 3.30pm Mon - 10.30am Fri) is available for ISP / Funded individuals with a disability from any region.

Impact Leisure Services Holiday & Respite Program

Impact Leisure Services, the recreation and respite division of IMPACT Support Services, provides a fee or service supported holiday program for adults with an Intellectual Disability. The program provides weekends and week long breaks to destinations within Victoria as well as holiday opportunities interstate and overseas.
IMPACT Support Services also offers a ‘Social Club’ that meets on the last Friday of every month. This is a social activity for all participants to join in a range of activities, have a great time and meet new people.

Arts Access National campaign; Advocate for better Disability Arts funding

Arts Access are calling on the Australian Government to invest $20 million over the next four years to implement the National Arts and Disability Strategy, with an additional $4 million for Creative Ageing, so people with disability can take their place, as artists and audiences, alongside all Australians.

Sign up for Respite South website weekly News and Events. These are e-mailed every Monday morning.
New features on the mail out include
- a links you directly to Respite Finder- a service seeker with all agencies listed, services and contact details.
- a faster way than ‘Google’ to search for services.
- a way to inform workers, carers and people with a disability about Repsite Soputh and the weekly mail out.
Become part of building a specific audience of people working in and using disability respite and recreation services. This is a good way for you to in turn promote your events and services to this specific audience.

NETWORK MEETING for providers of RESPITE and / or recreation services

Have you heard about RDRRN meetings? The Regional Disability Respite Reference Network is comprised of disability respite and recreation service providers within the Southern Region that meet bi-monthly to cordinate the regions services. For further information about this network, please apply for information through the 'contact us' address on this website. Please find attached the 'Terms of Reference' for RDRRN. Note Service providers and volunteers from registered 'Not for-profit' and 'Charitable organisations' are invited to attend the network meetings. Private Providers can present thier information but cannot attend on a regualr basis.
RDRRN meetings are held bi-monthly, and the date of next meeting 19 th October 2010.

Community Transport Directory 2010

The 2010 Community Transport Directory contains contact details for 40 service providers offering transport within the southern region. Section A contains information on Victorian transport concessions and Section B contains information on the services providing transport, divided into those providing transport to the general community and those who only provide transport to clients of their service.
To discuss your experience or concerns with transport, obtain an electronic copy of the Directory, or for updating service information within the Directory contact CRCC on 1800 052 222, carelink@cgmc.org.au or access the Transport Directory through the Websites developed and managed by the CRCC: www.carersouth.org.au or www.respitesouth.org.au.

Post News on Respite South website for weekly mailout

POST YOUR NEWS on Respite South website if you are a DHS funded organisation. Over 300 people in various agencies receive the weekly mail out of 'What's On- News and Events' early every Monday morning. This information is then used by services assisting families, as well as families, carers and people with a disability going directly to the website to search independantly for the latest information for themselves. Your service information is live on the website as well as being the direct mail out.
You are able to use Rspite south for promotions if;
- you are a DHS funded service provider,
- you are working in disability and / or respite / or recreation services,
- your services cover the southern metropolitan region, or part there of,
- you work with people witha disability / their families / carers and can promote the website directly as an invaluable resource
The guide attached gives you step-by-step instuctions about registering as a member for the weekly mailout of News and Events. You can post your own News and Events on our 'what's on - News & Events' page. Alternatively e-mail us via the 'Contact Us' button or e-mail k.speller@cgmc.org.au any information you want loaded up on the website.

Getaway to Phillip Island on the weekend of November 19th-21st 2010 at the completely accessible Alvina Cottages.. This weekend getaway will include many local island activities. A great chance for people with disabilities to get away, meet new friends and most of all have fun.

Social group for teenagers with Aspergers- Endeavour Hills Friday evenings

A new social group for teenagers with Aspergers (High Functioning Autism) in Endeavour Hills, the first Friday of the month from 7pm until 9pm. The first meeting will be on the Friday the 10th of September from 6.30pm. at the Andrews Centre, Endeavour Hills.
A separate parent and carer support group will run at the same time.
Wendy Lawson; a psychologist living with Aspergers, will meet the group on the first night She also runs a successful teen group from her home town of Warnambool. To hear Wendy speak about her life and livng with Aspergers, come and hera her speak on Wednesday 8th of September. Wendy has traveled the world sharing her knowledge and experiences.

JCAAA’s New Community Kitchen every Saturday evening

JCAAA’s New Community Kitchen!
Would you like to learn how to prepare your favourite meals and create new recipes while you make friends and have fun? JCAAA’s Community Kitchen is a social, educational program for adults aged 18 to 50 years with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.
Meet at the Betty Day Centre once a week and participate in a range of activities including food handling, budgeting, creating new recipes and of course, cooking! Get out, meet new people, have
some fun and cook some delicious healthy food !

Disabled Wintersports weekend with funding.

There is an opportunity for a weekend away with Disabled Wintersports. The Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre - (southern region only) are now taking referrals through their CareLine program for young people with disabilities and high physical support needs or those with high behavioural support needs who could safely spend an extended period away from family with attendant care support. This support could be 1:1 if required.

The Autism Crash Course for Parents

Workshops include a full-day introductory course for parents with a new Autism Spectrum diagnosis for their child, including:
- Toilet training children with additional needs
- Autism Spectrum and eating difficulties
- Puberty and ASD
- Considerations for siblings of children with additional needs
- Talking to the child about their ASD diagnosis

Find out about the Heart Foundations step-by-step guide to implement a quality, sustainable and proven program 80% retention rate of walkers, and a wide range of other resources to establish and maintain walking groups in your community. If you become and Area Coordinator, you can receive training, ongoing assistance, support and resources from the Heart Foundation.

Carer support packages aim to support and maintain the primary care-giving relationship while providing a positive experience for adults with an ABI. Eligibility Criteria:
•Carers must be the primary carer of an individual with a primary diagnosis of ABI, who must be aged between 18 and 64 and be non-compensable.
•Carers must have an identified need for respite / the carer must reside in the Southern Metropolitan Region

Exercise Physiology Services - Move 4 Health

Exercise Physiology services offered through Move 4 Health may include; gentle movement and sensory group programs, individual rehabilitation sessions, and professional development training for families and carers.
An Exercise Physiologist uses movement and exercise as an intervention for neuromuscular, cardiac, and musculoskeletal conditions, to help children, youth, and adults experience pain relief, sensory stimulation, and gain improvements in coordination, gross motor skills, concentration, balance, behavioural problems, self-esteem, and fatigue.

'MoneyHelp' is a new financial counselling services

MONEY HELP VICTORIA
The MoneyHelp service does not provide cash, but a free phone financial counselling service, offering a financial counselling and debt advice service.
MoneyHelp is an initiative of the Victorian Government and has been providing free, confidential and independent financial advice to Victorians experiencing, or concerned about, job loss or reduced working hours. Now, the service criteria will extend to those experiencing difficulty with housing payments such as rent, mortgage and rates. We recognise the disproportionate impact of the global financial crisis, redundancy and housing stress on low income earners and vulnerable groups within the community.
1800 149 689. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 9.30am-5.00pm.

Scooter and Wheelchair Travel Pass- includes free travel for those eligible.

Metlink Scooter and Wheelchair Travel Pass entitles the pass holder to free travel on:
Melbourne metropolitan trains, trams and buses
V/Line services
Regional town buses
Regional services that have a contract or service agreement with the Department of Transport.
Free travel passes do not necessarily apply to, and should not be used for CountryLink, Great Southern Railway, airport services and tourist railways. The pass holder should check with the relevant operator before booking or travelling.
To be eligible for the Scooter and Wheelchair Travel Pass you must:
- have a permanent and severe disability (being for the term of your life and not expected to improve)
- depend on the use of a scooter or wheelchair for mobility outside your home
- be a permanent resident of Victoria.

Lisa Neville, Respite Victoria connects to the 8 regional disability respite websites in Victoria via a regional map on the home page. Each regional website links you to a specialised "Respite Service Search" for local and statewide services that provide local information, news and events.
