Accessing your local community: the Metro Access initiative

Source:
Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre Southern Region

The Community Building Program supports communities to include people with a disability in local life. It is funded by the Department of Human Services and is a core feature of the Victorian State Disability Plan 2002-2012.

The Program is implemented in partnership with local communities, with MetroAccess workers based in each council across metro Melbourne.

MetroAccess uses a community development approach to increase opportunities for people with a disability to participate in local life.

For more information, including a list of MetroAccess workers in the southern region, please read the attached flyer.

Metro Access Officers in the southern region have created a film about their work, including specific projects.  The film can be viewed on YouTube in two parts - What is Metro Access? and Metro Access Projects, or there is access via the City of Kingston website.
