About Us

Respite South was designed to improve access to information about disability respite and recreation options in the Southern Metropolitan Region.  It is also intended to facilitate communication between disability service providers. The site was an initiative of the Southern Regional Disability Respite Reference Network, now called the Respite South Network.

The Southern Metropolitan Region is one of 8 regions of the Department of Human Services in the state of Victoria. It comprises 10 local government areas in Melbourne's south-east, which include Port Phillip, Stonnington, Glen Eira, Bayside, Kingston, Greater Dandenong, Casey, Frankston, Mornington Peninsula and Cardinia. With 1.312 million people it represents almost one quarter of the state's population.
